Specific strength workout

We met on a drizzling Sunday to do some specific strength. Just three skiers, and a coach who was practicing leaning on her poles. Spirits were high, though, and we did some good strength work and technique work. As always, the starts are the most fun part!

Ready, set...

go!

No pole starts.

My skis are glowing in the dark.

CSU at the Pisgah Mt. Trail Race

CSU runners/skiers Lisa Doucett and Donna Smyth ran the Pisgah Mt. Trail Race last weekend, Lisa opting for the "short" 23km race and Donna for the longer 50km race.  Both had good days with Lisa finishing 1st woman in her race (17th overall) in 2:17:55 while Donna finished 6h woman (1st over 50) and 34th overall.  The 50km mens race was won by skiier David Herr of Canann, VT and the women's 50km was won by a former CSU skier Amy Lane!

Donna's REPORT on her 50km race.

Results are HERE.

CSU Jrs Fall Sports News

A number of CSU Jrs are now well into their fall sports seasons.  A few tidbits I've been able to gather over the last few days:

Rion O'Grady is tearing it up running cross country for Dover-Sherborn.  In his last two races Rion has come home 2nd and 1st.

Concord-Carlisle - Lincoln-Sudbury Smackdown - This week CC and LS reportedly go at it in cross country.  These are two highly successful XC teams and of course neighboring schools that have no interest in losing to each other.  My secret source has informed me that there has been a bit of trash talking between Eli Hoenig (LS) and Chris Burnham (CC) as each has tried to figure out weak spots on the other team without divulging too much information.  This should be a good one so stay tuned!

Caitlin Guiney has been a prolific scorer for the CC field hockey team this week as CC handily beat Arlington 4-1.  Caitlin banged in three of those goals herself!  Be careful if Caitlin has a stick in her hands......

Julia Schiantarelli has also been running well for Newton North.  In NNs opener Julia finished 9th overall  and 7th on the always tough NN team.
Julia Bringing it Home for Newton North

Running for Brookline HS, Charlotte Cole has also been running up a storm as a freshman, finishing 2nd for Brookline (11th overall) in their first race of the season.

Another freshman running well was Chris Koziel, running for Needham HS, finishing his first race 9th for Needham and 26th overall.
And on the CSU alumni side of things, Kaytie Innamorati, running cross country for Gettysburg College, dropped her PR for 5km from 25:21 down to 21:42!!  That is quite a drop.  Nothing like good solid training all summer resulting in big improvements!
