CSU Skiers Run Stowe 8 Miler

It was a gorgeous day up in Stowe for the annual 8 mile road race.  Terry McNatt, Marshall Randolph and Lisa Doucett all ran well in the bright sun.  Not a bad day for standing around spectating too and a whole lot warmer than winter!  Its so green up there.....

CSU Ski Camp - Core Workout!

Just remembered that I had these photos of Alex's core workout.  The juniors did 2 circuits of all the exercises and loved every minute, followed by 10 min. abs and then pushups for some.

Final Day - CSU Ski Camp

We awoke this morning to the nicest weather of the week, bright sun, blue skies and lower humidity.  The plan was for a time trial and because we haven't found a good 5km loop, the time trial would consist of 4 x 3-5 min. uphill skating.  While the weather was nice, it was a bit hot.  Fortunately the course was mostly in the shade.  Alex started everyone while Rob and I teamed up to do the timing at the other end of the road.  This being the last day of camp some of the kids were tired and it was interesting that several did negative splits, I think because they were tired and it took a while for them to get moving.  Several of the older juniors, in particular, looked very strong and skied consistent intervals and most of the kids skied very well.  I'll try to get the results up this week.

After lunch, and a good-bye card for Erik, who is moving to Sweden in a week, everyone said their good-byes as the second CSU summer ski camp came to a close.

CSU Camp - Hike Day

Today was the Wapack Trail hike.  This was a carefully coreographed exercise in planning and execution.  Alex and Sue LaChance took the girls and drove to Windblown to hike south on the Wapack, while Rob and I and John LaChance took the boys to the southern terminus to hike north, passing somewhere on the trail to exchange car and van keys.  At the end of the hike the entire group was to rendevous at Jim Rodriquez's house in Dublin, NH for a cook out.  To complicate matters, the coaches were carefully tracking a major thunderstorm, hoping it would either arrive during the night and clear out in time, or arrive after we had snuck in the hike.  The latter was in fact the case.  The hike was excellent, if a bit buggy and humid, with all the CSU boys jogging the trail with Rob while John  and I hiked it with the BKSL boys.  Similarly, Alex took about half of the girls on their southern jog while Sue took the hiking group.  Keys were successfully exchanged, no one got lost and no rain struck until the very end as I was coming through Windblown.  Excellent!!

We then retired to Jim's very nice house for the cookout, blueberry picking, volleyball and horseshoes.  Jim and Dana had strung up NENSA tents and tarps to keep us all dry while he fired up the grills and Dana brought out the salad and we had an excellent feast, complete with Smores.  The kids enjoyed the time socializing, as did the coaches.  Many, many thanks to Jim and Dana for offering to do this for us!
