Today was the Wapack Trail hike. This was a carefully coreographed exercise in planning and execution. Alex and Sue LaChance took the girls and drove to Windblown to hike south on the Wapack, while Rob and I and John LaChance took the boys to the southern terminus to hike north, passing somewhere on the trail to exchange car and van keys. At the end of the hike the entire group was to rendevous at Jim Rodriquez's house in Dublin, NH for a cook out. To complicate matters, the coaches were carefully tracking a major thunderstorm, hoping it would either arrive during the night and clear out in time, or arrive after we had snuck in the hike. The latter was in fact the case. The hike was excellent, if a bit buggy and humid, with all the CSU boys jogging the trail with Rob while John and I hiked it with the BKSL boys. Similarly, Alex took about half of the girls on their southern jog while Sue took the hiking group. Keys were successfully exchanged, no one got lost and no rain struck until the very end as I was coming through Windblown. Excellent!!
We then retired to Jim's very nice house for the cookout, blueberry picking, volleyball and horseshoes. Jim and Dana had strung up NENSA tents and tarps to keep us all dry while he fired up the grills and Dana brought out the salad and we had an excellent feast, complete with Smores. The kids enjoyed the time socializing, as did the coaches. Many, many thanks to Jim and Dana for offering to do this for us!
